A Covenant With My Eyes
Job once made a serious commitment concerning what he allowed himself to look at.
He said:
“I made a covenant with my eyes…”
Job 31:1
But what exactly is a covenant?
A covenant is a serious commitment or agreement.
For a young person, making a covenant with your eyes can mean making a deliberate decision about what you will and will not allow yourself to look at.
It means saying:
I will not allow everything into my eyes simply because it is available.
The things we repeatedly watch can influence our thoughts, desires and decisions.
That is why purity requires intentionality.
You may need to be careful about the websites you visit, the videos you watch, the books you read and the conversations you entertain.
This is not about living in fear.
It is about living with wisdom.
Ask yourself:
Does this help me become the person God is calling me to be?
If the answer is no, you may need to walk away.
Purity is not merely about saying no to something.
Sometimes purity is saying yes to God's better way.
